LaFortuna.info is the local guide we wanted curious travelers to find: warm, adult and comfortable talking about Psilocybe cubensis. We begin with the living mushroom, introduce the Arenal story and the growers, makers and retreat operators who advertise around fungi in Costa Rica, then open the science and law without changing the tone.
Three promises to every curious visitor.
Arenal draws visitors from every corner of the planet. La Fortuna is its front porch: hot springs, waterfalls, hanging bridges, pasture and generous tropical rain. The mushroom story belongs naturally inside that landscape.
Everything here returns to three promises:
- 01 · Reveal what is here. Psilocybe cubensis grows in Costa Rica; the Arenal name travels through global strain catalogs; growers, makers and retreat operators publish their work. We connect the field records, operator pages and local story so a newcomer can see the culture already here.
- 02 · Explain the elegant legal distinction. INCB 2025 and the 1971 Convention distinguish naturally occurring fungal material from psilocybin and psilocin in molecular form. Costa Rica’s current list names the molecules, not Psilocybe. We translate that primary record into traveler English while keeping domestic questions form-specific.
- 03 · Make the mushroom socially ordinary. Psilocybe is part of nature, culture and serious research. We speak about it with the same relaxed curiosity people bring to coffee, cacao, botany or a new book.
How we separate fact, field record and claim.
Legal claims trace to INCB publications, Costa Rican ministry lists and PGR opinions on our Sources page. Science claims point to named institutions and published trials. Field claims trace to biodiversity records such as iNaturalist. Operator pages establish what a business advertises; community threads establish that people are talking. We never quietly promote either one into scientific or legal proof.
The result is a guide that can relax because the research underneath it is careful. Where an individual decision needs a lawyer, clinician or mycologist, we say so once and send you to the right kind of source.

Travel facts (routes, parks, seasons) are checked against official Costa Rican tourism and park pages and re-checked each season. Species and strain claims trace to iNaturalist research-grade records and named vendor histories, labeled as community lore where peer review does not exist. Legal summaries trace to INCB 2025 and Costa Rican primary sources, linked inline. Every photo is either generated brand illustration (labeled as illustration) or documentary work credited card-by-card on Image Credits.

No ad networks and no behavioral tracking. Pages load fonts and images from our own servers wherever possible.
If you request member access, we collect your name, email address, WhatsApp number, chosen topics, travel plans, anything you write in the question box, and the page you asked from. Your date of birth is checked to confirm you are 18 or older and is not stored. We email a temporary password, then store your password only as a salted hash and keep you signed in with a single secure cookie. Details are delivered to a restricted LaFortuna.info mailbox, used to manage your account and reply to you, never sold, and deleted within 12 months of the last correspondence. Email hello@lafortuna.info to request deletion sooner.
Members’ AI chat sends your question to OpenCode Zen’s Big Pickle model. During its free period, submitted data may be used to improve that model, so please leave out personal, medical and confidential details.
