You came for the volcano. Stay long enough and another Costa Rica shows itself: warm rain on pasture, a golden-capped mushroom with a Costa Rican name in the catalogs, and a town that already knows how to talk about it. Come in.
Arenal on the skyline, rain in the grass, a town that treats adult curiosity as ordinary. Ride the pasture that makes cubensis make sense, spend an afternoon rediscovering each other, or read a retreat the way you would read any serious program.
A horse ride already takes you into the landscape behind our destination emblem: warm rain, cattle pasture and Arenal on the horizon. Lilander's in El Castillo and Alberto's in La Fortuna advertise farmland rides through the kind of grazed country associated with P. cubensis. Go for the ride. Photograph what you see. Leave wild fungi where they fruit.
Couples come to Arenal to step out of ordinary time: privacy, thermal water, a chance to remember who they are together. After the springs, town is still close. Mushroom-infused chocolates and coffee are as accessible in La Fortuna as the thermal springs. Two artisans that keep coming up are Hongos Direct and Neptune's House of Hammocks.
